Games that are usually played in pubs

Darts

Darts is a traditional pub game. So it’s extremely common to find a darts board in pubs in the 21st century. Whether you’re playing it for fun or you are a serious player, most pubs will accommodate you. It’s a competitive sport in which two players must throw sharp-pointed missiles (known as darts) at a target (the dartboard). The dartboard will feature different rings with different point numbers written in them. Whichever area you hit is the number of points you will accumulate. The player with the most points at the end of the game (you can choose how many rounds you play) wins.

Pool

Finding a pool table in pubs is also extremely common. Many love playing pool for the social aspect. You can enjoy a game with your friends as a nice break from sitting around chatting over drinks. But people also find it a great way to socialise and meet new people. You can meet people from all walks of life in the pub that fancy a game. This is a great way to form relationships at your local. The sport can become a hobby for many and you can progress your skills the more you play. It can be very satisfying to gain new skills and become a better player.

Aunt Sally

Aunt Sally is an extremely traditional English pub game. It existed since the 17th century! In the game, there will be a model of an old women’s head with a pipe in her mouth (which is usually made of clay). Players must gather around and throw sticks at her mouth with the aim of breaking her pipe. And of course, whichever individual or team breaks the pipe first will win!

Devil among the tailors

Devil among the tailors is a pub game which involves 9 small skittles that are arranged in a 3×3 square. Usually, there is an elevated table with the game placed upon it, this is to ensure easy viewing for players. The game features a wooden ball that hangs from a string. This will be attached to a thick wooden pole which is placed at the back of the games platform. The aim of the game is to swing the ball in an arc and knock all the skittles down. You can choose how many rounds you play. If all skittles are knocked down, you will gain a point. The team or player with the most points at the end of the game will win. You can have miniature or giant versions of the game. It all depends on how many players are playing. Usually, a pub will feature a bigger version of the game so other customers can enjoy watching the game too.

Ringing the bull

Ringing the bull is also a traditional pub game which dates all the way back to the middle ages. So, it has a very long history in the pub game culture. The game usually comes as an oak board with a bull faced carved into it. It will also feature a hook and ring. You will be given a metal ring that is attached to some rope. The aim will be to swing the metal ring and aim to catch it on the hook. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? However, this game will take skill, concentration and a steady hand.
